KLUANG: Three motorcyclists and a pillion rider were injured when they collided with a tapir attempting to cross the road at KM 79 along the Jalan Kota Tinggi – Kluang stretch around 8.30pm yesterday.

Kluang district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said that unfortunately, the animal died on the spot.

"The three motorcyclists were approaching the Taman Seri Lambak (T6) roundabout from the direction of Taman Seri Impian when they struck the tapir that was attempting to cross the road.

"As a result of the accident, all the victims aged between 19 and 57, sustained injuries to their shoulders, hands and legs. They were rushed to Hospital Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang by ambulance," he said when contacted today.

Bahrin said that the case was being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (Rule 10 LN 166/59).

Meanwhile, in a related development, Johor Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director, Aminuddin Jamin, said that they would be investigating the accident.
