BUTTERWORTH: The Education Ministry is investigating an incident where a pupil at a school in the East Coast became emotionally disturbed and refused to go to school after being bitten by a teacher.

Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying said the ministry had already identified the post that was uploaded on social media, claiming that such an incident happened, and was now in the midst of taking the appropriate action.

She said that the ministry took such claims very seriously because it should not have happened in the first place.

"I would like to stress that the Education Ministry will never compromise on any issue," she said when met after visiting SMK Bagan Jaya here today.

Lim was asked to comment on claims by a mother that her son, who is only 6, was bitten by a teacher, causing the child to be emotionally disturbed.

In the post, the mother of the pupil was baffled after her child constantly queried and asked about school holidays and was not as jovial as before.

Initially, the mother thought that her child was the victim of bullying, until eventually it came to light that her child was bitten by a male teacher.

There are also claims that the other pupils were also victims in the biting incident.

On another matter, Lim said the ministry would not compromise concerning claims that there were elements of bullying towards the student who was alleged to have choked his younger brother to death in Melaka recently.

"The case is under police investigation and the ministry is also conducting an investigation regarding the claim of bullying.

"We are now waiting to take further action," she said.

In another development, Lim also announced an allocation of RM500,000 to upgrade and maintain SMK Bagan Jaya.

Also present was Bagan Member of Parliament Lim Guan Eng, who also contributed for the installation of air conditioners for the school's staff room.
