KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry today prohibited any outdoor activities in areas with air pollution index (API)  readings of above 100  and advised students to stay hydrated to regulate their body temperatures.

The preventive measures were issued out to the state Education Departments, District Education Offices  and all of its educational institutions in dealing with the hot weather and severe haze.

This is following the country's recent hot weather, which resulted in unhealthy API levels in some areas.

"To ensure that students' health is not impacted, any activities that might expose them to hot weather conditions will be monitored and perhaps postponed.

"Students are urged to bring their own drinking water, but if the situation gets critical, drinking water will also be provided.

"Always be alert and cooperate with clinics and hospitals in case there are any problems with the students due to the heat," read the statement.

The ministry advised all of its educational institutions to adhere to the guidelines set and to be aware of recent events surrounding the haze phenomenon in their particular locations or districts through the media.
