KOTA KINABALU: Outdoor activities for schools in Sabah need to be postponed due to the hot weather and haze, said state Education director Datuk Raisin Saidin.

"We have guidelines for dealing with issues such as hot weather and haze; school management is encouraged to refer to and utilise the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education (MOE).

"I also want to remind schools that all activities held outside the classroom should be avoided at this time.

"Schools with unhealthy and dangerous Air Pollution Index (API) readings may close school operations based on the guidelines set," he said when met at the Ramadan Charity Event organised by state Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Ministry here yesterday.

Raisin also said that there are few schools in Tuaran that have been closed due to the hazardous Air Pollution Index (API) readings following a fire that broke out at the Kayu Madang landfill site.

Present at the event were Assistant Science, Technology and Innovation Sabah minister Datuk Harun Durabi and permanent secretary Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Mohd Kassim.
