MELAKA: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has received 1,742 complaints on consumer issues through the Aduan Suri QR code since the initiative was launched on Jan 11.

Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh said of the total, 168 complaints were from consumers in Melaka.

She said the top three complaint categories were online transactions (64 complaints), prices (40 complaints) and misleading services (26 complaints).

She said although the initiative was targeted at housewives, 53 per cent of complainants, or 89 complainants, were men and 47 per cent were women.

"We have launched Aduan Suri in several states, such as Kedah and Johor, and today in Melaka.

"This is one of the initiatives to empower women as consumers and to encourage them to lodge complaints in a simpler and faster way.

"This initiative is in line with the ministry's aim of speeding up the process of receiving complaints from one day to two hours and expediting responses to within 14 days instead of 21 days," she said after launching Aduan Suri in the state and the Melaka Rahmah Homestay Package here today.

Present was state Unity, Information, Human Resources and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Ngwe Hee Sem.

Fuziah said the ministry had other complaint channels, such as the EzAdu application, the e-Aduan portal (e-aduan.kpdnhep.gov.my) and a hotline (1-800-886-800).

She said the platforms received 7,343 complaints between January and March 8.

Of the number, 785 complaints were from consumers in Melaka and 95 per cent had been resolved.

On another matter, Fuziah said the ministry aimed to set up 50 Rahmah Ramadan Bazaars throughout the country during Ramadan.

She said discussions were ongoing with the Local Government Development Ministry and local authorities in each state.

On the misuse of names under the Payung Rahmah initiative, such as Menu Rahmah, she said no complaints had been lodged on the matter so far.

She said the ministry was monitoring the implementation of the voluntary initiative. - BERNAMA
