KUALA LUMPUR: Johor's heavy rainfall these past few days is not unusual based on meteorological records.

The Meteorology Department (MetMalaysia) director-general, Muhammad Helmi Abdullah, said such high rainfall was not unusual as it had occurred several times over the years.

He said currently the country was at the end of the north-east monsoon and usually, the weather in the peninsula was drier.

"MetMalaysia had expected four to six episodes of heavy rain episodes to occur throughout the monsoon for the 2022/2023 period. The continuous rain currently felt is the sixth episode of heavy rain," he told BH today.

MetMalaysia also issued today a warning of very heavy rain in two states until tomorrow.

MetMalaysia portal at 8am said that continuous rain was expected to occur in Rompin, Pahang; Segamat, Kluang and Mersing, Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru, Johor; and in Pekan, Pahang.

Continued rain at alert level is expected in Maran, Kuantan and Bera, Pahang; Jempol and Tampin, Negri Sembilan and Melaka.

MetMalaysia also informed that continuous rain is expected to occur today in Sarawak over Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu (Sibu and Kanowit) and Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro and Matu).
