This was the question posed to the Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor when he went to a mamak restaurant yesterday.

Sharing this after the Minister's Question Time (MQT) session ended, Ramli said he was taken aback by the question.

"I went to a mamak restaurant yesterday and something happened. They (the restaurant patrons) recognised me. (And) they asked me; "YB (yang berhormat), how is the zoo?

"I was surprised as this is the impression that the people outside have on us," he said.

It is believed that the people, particularly on social media, have been referring to the Dewan Rakyat as the zoo, following the antics of the members of parliament while in the august House.

As such, Ramli then reminded all the MPs to behave and continue upholding the virtues and etiquette while in Dewan Rakyat.

He also reminded the MPs to give their attention to the MP or minister talking at the time.

"Based on Section 41 of the Standing Order, I hope there will be no small meetings held when the Dewan Rakyat session is ongoing, where one MP is talking, small meetings being held; be it on the left or the right side.

"Please take note and be reminded that we are being broadcast live (and the people are watching)," he said.

Ramli also reminded the MPs that decisions made by the speaker or deputy speakers were final.

"This is based on Sections 43, 99 and 99(A) of the Standing Order."

Yesterday, Ramli had reminded MPs to comply with the code of ethics when the house is in session due to it being aired live.

He also told the MPs not to use insulting or unparliamentary terms.

Last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when tabling the special allocation (mini budget) had reminded the MPs to maintain discipline and good manners so as not to violate any standing order during the Dewan Rakyat sitting.

He said the MPs should always protect the dignity of the House and not let the people laugh at them for their antics which were being broadcast live on television and other media platforms.

He said the MPs could have different opinions and argue, but they must always respect the august House by not behaving so badly because the people are laughing when they watch them during the sitting which had become, as they call it in social media, a circus.
