KUALA LUMPUR: Usanita Sdn Bhd today signed two Letters of Intent with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and the e-Entrepreneurs Association Malaysia (EWA) to empower students and women in the entrepreneurship sector by equipping them with the relevant skills.

Usanita Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datin Seri Adzliana Hassan said Usanita is an entity that facilitates entrepreneurs in the B40 category to connect with related agencies or bodies under ministries and corporate bodies.

"After the country entered the Covid-19 endemic phase, many individuals wanted to start their own businesses but they lacked exposure and knowledge.

"It is difficult for them to develop their business. Usanita will take the responsibility to provide them with guidance and support with various parties."

She hopes that Usanita can collaborate with more institutions and entities such as Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, in addition to furthering collaborations with other ministries and corporate bodies to train students to be entrepreneurs.

"UKM and EWA have taken the initiative to work with the Faculty of Economics and Management to build a strategic programme that can assist entrepreneurs registered under Usanita and EWA pioneers in growing both themselves and their company.

"Among the government agencies we have worked with include the Women and Community Development and Youth and Sports ministries, the Malaysian Family Aspiration Tour (JPM) as well as corporate partners such as Maybank Islamic, SME Corp and many more," she said.

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Economics and Management faculty dean, Prof Dr Aini Aman said the collaboration between UKM's FEP and Usanita would expand and strengthen partnerships between academic researchers and the industry.

"It is particularly helpful in building talent and increasing the employability of graduates in the field of entrepreneurship, both nationally and internationally.

"This collaboration will be a very good platform for students to further contribute to the development of the country and to achieve the aspiration of becoming a leading entrepreneurial country by 2030."

She said the LoIs signed were aimed at branding and promotion of programmes and entrepreneurship training such as developing modules for microcredential courses and also short courses related to the world of entrepreneurship.

"The students will have higher confidence to develop their own businesses as a result of exposure to current industry practices, mentoring sessions and various entrepreneurship programme opportunities.

"I hope that this collaboration will contribute to the development and skills of students towards a first-class entrepreneurial mindset," said Prof Dr Aini.
