JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian-registered vessel that dropped off the authorities' radar on Jan 1 is still missing, Johor Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said.

The 'MV Dai Cat 06' cargo ship, with five crew members and carrying RM726,205 worth of steel pipes, had departed from Kampung Acheh in Perak on Dec 23 and was supposed to arrive in Kuching, Sarawak on Dec 31.

State MMEA director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria, in an update at midnight, said authorities have yet to receive any information on the whereabout of the ship.

"We receive information from Putrajaya that the Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) will also be involved in the search-and-rescue effort," he said.

It was reported that the last location of the vessel, detected through the Automatic Identification System (AIS), was on Jan 1 in the Indonesian waters, 0.2 nautical miles from the border of Johor waters.

MMEA said the latest signal based on the Emergency Position Indicator Radio Beacon was sent at 10.42pm on Jan 9, from 30 nautical miles north west of Pemangkat, Indonesia.

The maritime community is urged to contact MMEA's Operations Centre at 07-2199401 if they have information.
