TASEK GELUGOR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders are ready to cooperate with anti-graft authorities on the investigation into the alleged misuse of RM92.5 billion in government funds during the Covid-19 pandemic three years ago.

Parti Pribumi Bersatu (Bersatu) information chief, Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said any PN leaders summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will give their full cooperation.

He said although the probe appears to be "politically-motivated", he acknowledged that the anti-graft commission are obliged to investigate the allegations.

"PN had on several occasions been accused of abusing funds as much as RM600 billion. This figure is constantly changing.

"Now, the probe has been continued. We understand that we are the only coalition right now which can mount a serious challenge to the administration.

"To me, this is tantamount to character assassination of (PN chairman) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and will continue for the rest of the year.

"Our leaders are ready to be questions by the MACC and to give their statements," he said.

Wan Saiful was speaking to reporters after attending a session with padi farmers here today.

Wan Saiful, who is also Tasek Gelugor member of parliament, said the people are also waiting for the decision on the political leaders labeled as the "court cluster."

"I appreciate the recent statement by the Chief Justice that there were efforts to pressure the judiciary. We are certain that the judiciary will stand strong with its integrity intact.

"I'm sure that the people are also waiting for the status of the high-profile court cases involving (Tan Sri) Shahrir Ab Samad, which we already know the outcome, (Datuk Seri) Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor as well as the biggest one, which involves (Datuk Seri) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi," he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced that the

Finance Ministry had reported a serious breach of procedure in government expenditure involving almost RM600 billion during Muhyiddin's tenure as prime minister.

Last week, it was reported that Muhyiddin, former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin as well as International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, would be summoned by the MACC over its probe into the alleged abuse of RM600 billion in government funds.

MACC, in a statement yesterday, said the focus of the investigation is now on RM92.5 billion of government funds, originating from the RM600 billion total.
