JOHOR BARU: The upgrade of the Pasir Gudang Highway is set to resume this year with a RM78 million allocation from the Federal Government.

Pasir Gudang member of Parliament Hassan Abdul Karim said the works entail the upgrade of the intersection at Bandar Seri Alam and Taman Rinting to Pasir Gudang over a span of 5.5km.

He said the road would be widened from four lanes to six dual-carriageway lanes over the next 36 months to October 2025.

Hassan who announced the upgrade in a statement today said the news was delivered by State Works, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh.

"I would like to thank Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for paying attention to the state of the highway," he said in a statement here today.

The works on the package was initially expected to kick off at the end of 2022 and completed within a similar 36-month time frame.

The highway which is said to be a death trap for motorcyclists due to its potholes, is poorly lit and is regularly hit by flash floods in the past few years.
