KUANTAN: Subsidised cooking oil in polybags were sold out at several supermarkets in the district here today.

But bottled cooking oil weighing between 2kg and 5kg are available.

Several consumers Berita Harian spoke to expressed concern over the matter and asked the government to address the subsidised cooking oil shortage.

Housewife Jamaliah Kamaruddin, 56, urged the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to act quickly to solve the shortage of the essential item.

"Not everyone can afford bottled cooking oil, especially the underprivileged.

"The shortage of subsidised cooking oil needs to be solved immediately."

Meanwhile, checks on the supply of chicken eggs also showed there was a shortage, especially for the trays of 30 eggs.

Pricier chicken eggs were still available in the market.

Nasi lemak seller Junaidi Kamaruzzaman, 45, said the egg shortage had affected his business, forcing him to get supplies from supermarkets or grocery stores.

"I hope the government will quickly fix the chicken eggs shortage."
