KUANTAN: Several supermarkets and sundry shops here appear to have run out of supply of packets of subsidised cooking oil, though stocks of two and five kilogrammes bottled cooking oil were still available.

Checks today found that packets of subsidised cooking oil, which is limited to just three packets per customer to purchase, had ran out since early morning.

Such a scenario is making members of the public worried and concerned, especially those from the lower income group who wanted the government to address and overcome this supply problem immediately.

Housewife Jamaliah Kamaruddin, 56, said authorities, especially the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry must act immediately to ensure that consumers can obtain or procure such essential, daily needs goods with ease and convenience.

"Not everyone can afford to buy bottled cooking oil, especially those from the lower income gorup and the very poor because of how high the prices are.

"So the problem of a lack of stocks and supply of subsidised cooking oil must be resolved immediately, please," said Jamaliah.

Meanwhile, checks on the supply of eggs found that it is also limited with a noticeable shortage especially involving trays of 30 eggs.

However, 10 Omega chicken eggs and other premium eggs are readily available in the market albeit at a higher price which is why there is no problem or issue with supply for such eggs.

Nasi lemak seller Junaidi Kamaruzzaman, 45, said the difficulty in getting eggs has impacted his business because eggs are a very important part of Nasi Lemak which is a staple and popular dish among Malaysians.

Junaidi said due to the difficulty in getting eggs, he has had to travel further just to buy eggs.

"The government needs to restore the supply of chicken eggs as soon as possible because the difficulty in getting it is forcing us to spend more time to go further just to get what we need," he said.
