JOHOR BARU: More than 4,000 flood hotspots have been identified throughout the country, said Fire and Rescue Department director general Datuk Seri Mohammad Hamdan Wahid.

The department has also marked more than 180 hotspots for water surges with 200 critical slopes that are in danger of collapse.

He said the department was in the midst of monitoring the latest flood situation.

The floods have affected 14 districts in five states. with a total of 2,763 people placed in 22 temporary flood relief centres.

Overall there are 4,795 flood hotspots locations besides 186 hotspots for water surges and 254 critical slopes that are at risk of natural disasters during monsoon season.

"We advise the public, especially those living in hotspots locations to be on standby for any disaster," he said at a press conference after opening the southern zone building bylaws (Amendment 2001) seminar at the Persada International Convention Centre.
