KUALA NERUS: A woman shared that one can never be too prepared for natural disasters after being a victim of flooding for almost three decades.

Ruhani Mohamad, 58, lives in a housing area in Tok Jembal where 115 flood victims from 30 families have been placed at the Temporary Flood Relief Centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tok Jembal here earlier today.

She said that two days ago she began making preparations in anticipation of flooding by moving electrical appliances such as the fridge.

According to Ruhani, she realised that the water level was rising at around 6.00am.

"Since the water was rising slowly, I managed to move my personal belongings in the house and the sundry shop things to a safer place.

"By around 8.00am, the rising flood waters forced us to abandon our homes and seek shelter at the designated Flood Relief Centre," she said when met today.

Ruhani said that the flooding this time was not as bad as the last time when the losses were severe because they had no time to move their belongings in time as the flood waters rose quite fast.

"The flooding back in February was devastating because our belongings, personal items, even the cars and other things were damaged or destroyed by the floods.

"I am grateful that now we are experienced, in the sense that we are more vigilant and better prepared to face the floods, and can avoid severe losses and damage, even though we still do suffer," she said.
