KUALA LUMPUR: 631.6 tonnes of bulk waste from floods have been collected since Dec 20 in 14 affected areas in the federal capital following a Post -Flood Cleanup Operation.

The affected areas are Kampung Kasipillay, Kampung Pasir, Kolam Air, Petaling Bahagia, Jalan Batu Bata, Kampung Perik, Kampung Hock An, Tiong Nam, Masjid Jamek, Jalan Ipoh, Jalan Raja and Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Putra, Jalan Tun Razak and Jalan Pahang.

The director of the Federal Territory Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp), Ummi Kalthum Shuib, said the process of cleaning up the flood-affected waste in the area was 100 per cent complete.

"All bulk waste will be collected according to the normal operating schedule by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (AFSB).

"It will then be transported to the Kuala Lumpur Transfer Station (KLTS) in Taman Beringin, then compacted into a 'prime mover' or loaded into a 'super roro' before being sent to the Bukit Tagar Landfill," he said.

Ummi Kalthum said, they also had to seek help from the Cheras Police Station yesterday, to remove about a tonne of garbage stored by a house owner for the past 10 years.

She said they expect to remove about two more tonnes of rubbish from the house, today, using two roro bins and an 'open tipper'.

"If residents in the capital find that waste is not collected according to schedule, they can inform the matter via 03-22459292," she said.

As for the private sector, she said, it is subject to the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Scheme for Commercial, Industrial and Institutional Solid Waste 2018.

"The parties affected by the floods must ensure that the waste is also transported by a licensed waste collector," he said.

Ummi Kalthum also urged the public to change their attitude by no longer throwing rubbish everywhere, instead use the bins provided to facilitate collection.

"This includes not mixing the waste and segregating them because instead of letting waste be sent to landfills, we can turn it into a' Gen-Re 'or recycling generation," she said.

She said that Federal Territory residents must also implement separation at source (SAS).

She said SWCorp would inspect all houses and areas of the joint management body (JMB) in strata title residences to ensure that SAS is implemented properly.

"The SAS compound will be imposed if the residents do not follow the rules," she said.

In the meantime, Ummi Kalthum said, residents who lost green bins due to floods, should report the matter to the Federal Territory SWCorp immediately.

She said the public can call 03-22459292 or send messages to 019-4460300 or 016-8655313.
