RANTAU PANJANG: Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud reminded parents to be more vigilant and pay extra attention to their small children to prevent unwanted incidents during the flood season.

The Meranti assemblyman said the state government does not want a repeat of the drowning cases which occurred recently.

"In Kelantan, three drowning cases involving a teenager and two children happened during this monsoon season.

"We do not want this to happen to our children and therefore, parents need to pay more attention to their children.

"Apart from that, l was informed that the relevant agencies have been monitoring the flood situation closely.

"So let's us work together for the safety of everybody," he told the flood victims at SK Gual Tinggi here today.

Since the monsoon season hit the state on Nov 19, three lives have been claimed by the floods.

The first victim, a 23-month-old toddler, met a tragic fate in the river close to his home in Kampung Kenali on Nov 26.

A nine-year-old boy become the second victim when he was discovered drowned in an irrigation canal at Kampung Derdap on Nov 28.

On Nov 30, a 17-year-old youth died while fishing at a river in Kampung Bukit Gading, Tanah Merah.

Meanwhile, Nassuruddin said the state government promised that it would pay the rental of 58 families here.

"We are aware that these villagers have been renting new homes as their village was inundated by 'banjir termenung' almost every year.

"We will repay their rental soon," he added.

It is learnt that the 56 affected families from Kampung Gual Tok Deh, Kampung Lanchang and Kampung Tersang, have rented new houses after their homes were flooded since early this year.
