PUTRAJAYA: A few of the current restrictions will be relaxed soon, and one of them is related to interstate travel.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who confirmed the matter today said there were ongoing discussions to relax certain standard operating procedures (SOP) based on scientific facts and current indicators.

"I have discussed the matter with Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah and we have decided on a series of suggestions.

"It will be presented during the National Security Council (NSC) meeting soon. There is hope (for interstate travel), only we need to be a bit more patient.

"This is because we were told that opening state borders for travel is risky, so we need a little more time (to decide). There are still some states with low vaccination rates.

"By September, all states will achieve a 60 per cent complete vaccination dose coverage among adults," he told a press conference here today.

Khairy said the government is determined to increase the vaccination distribution rate in states that recorded immunisation coverage of less than 60 per cent such as Sabah, Kelantan, Kedah, Perak, Johor, Terengganu, Pahang and Penang.
