NIBONG TEBAL: Firefighters today rescued an octogenarian man from his double-storey terrace house in Sungai Bakap, here, today (Saturday).

Penang Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said a distress call was received at 2.34am, and a team from the Nibong Tebal and Batu Kawan fire stations were deployed for the rescue operation.

"Upon arriving at the scene, the second-floor of the terrace house was already 60 per cent destroyed by fire.

"A man in his 80s was trapped in the fire and the team managed to rescue him from the house.

"The victim sustained minor burn injuries on his hands and forehead beside complaining of breathing difficulties," the spokesman said in a statement today (Saturday).

The spokesman added that the Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) team that was ready at the site, gave early treatment to the victim before he was taken to the Sungai Bakap Hospital for further treatment.

The cause of fire and total of losses still being investigated.
