KUALA LUMPUR: Students who will sit for major examinations will be given priority for the Covid-19 vaccination.

Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said the decision by Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) was made following National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency's (NPRA) approval of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine usage on children aged 12 and above.

"Alhamdulillah! The Education Ministry's suggestion (to administer Covid-19 vaccine) to students sitting for examinations has been agreed upon by CITF chaired by the Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

"The Education Ministry is always committed to do the best! Best believe that (we) will definitely #MenangBersama! (win together) if we are united," he said in a Facebook post today.

On vaccination for educators, he said some 90,000 teachers had received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine so far.

Radzi also shared a video recording in a webinar hosted by Oxford and Cambridge Society of Malaysia on issues pertaining vaccination for school students.

In the video, Khairy said he had received an inquiry by Radzi on the possibility of providing Covid-19 vaccines to school students who would be sitting for examinations.

"It only makes sense as these students will face public exams and Pfizer has already been approved (for the purpose) and we are working towards that.

"I have received a text by the education minister saying that there are 357,000 Form Five and Six students and 47,000 teachers for Form Five, based on the annual examination data," said Khairy in the video.

It was reported that the Drug Control Authority (DCA), an agency under NPRA, has approved the use of Comirnaty vaccine, produced by Pfizer-BioNTech, for children aged 12 and above during its meeting on Tuesday.
