KOTA KINABALU: Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of raya shirt orders received by most tailors around the city increased compared to last year.

Checks at several sewing shops found the tailors were chasing deadlines to complete orders as Aidilfitri draws near.

Tailor Siti Raha Yusof, 45, said there was a slight increase in the number of orders for her works this year.

"I received orders for more than 50 pairs of shirts for Hari Raya this time.

"Although the number seems small but it is actually large looking at the current situation where Covid-19 is still around.

"Last year, the order was less than 50 pairs and in total my income dropped by about 70 percent during the festive season," she said when met, near here, today.

The mother of two said customers only started ordering their clothes in mid March as many were worried there would be no Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Another tailor, Hajrah Basir, 47, also said there was an increase in orders this year.

"We got 73 bookings this year and that is better than no bookings at all.

"Before Covid-19 hit, I used to receive orders for between 300 and 400 pairs of raya shirts.

"Last year's business was so bad that it was even difficult to get 30 orders," said the tailor of 20 years experience.
