KOTA KINABALU: The re-implementation of two-week home-based learning (PdPR) after Hari Raya Aidilfitri is seen as the best learning approach following spikes in Covid-19 cases among students.

Sabah's Education Ministry's national focal person Mohammad Arif Sakaran said cases of students infected with Covid-19 would certainly raise concerns among parents.

"Even some of them do not dare to send their children to school. There are also schools being forced to close to prevent further spread of infection.

"The decision Education Ministry's to implement PdPR after Hari Raya is a wise move for the benefit of all.

"I fully support this as many parents in the state have expressed concern, particularly for their children who have just started pre-school, primary one, and primary two," he said.

Mohammad Arif believed PdPR would be carried out effectively as all parties, especially parents, teachers and students were better prepared compared to when it was first introduced last year.

Although the lack of devices would be one of the main problems faced during PdPR, he said the government and non-governmental organisations (NGO) had donated many devices to students after several of PdPR implementations last year.

"The involvement of the community such as parents and the private sector is also important to ensure that the PdPR runs smoothly.

"Parents themselves should help in terms of monitoring their children's home learning throughout PdPR and should not just rely entirely on teachers," he said.

Recently, Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin announced PdPR would be carried out from May 16-27 for Group A schools (Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu).

Home-based learning and teaching session for Group B schools would commence from May 17-28. It involves Perlis, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Pahang, Sabah, Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya.
