KUALA LUMPUR: The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has temporarily suspended the Certificate of Approval for Approved Training Organisation under Regulation 67 of Civil Aviation Regulations 2016 issued to My Heli Club for a period of six months, effective today.

CAAM chief executive Captain Chester Voo said the temporary suspension came after two accidents involving three helicopters operated by My Heli Club, which occurred on Nov 8, 2020 in Taman Melawati, Selangor; and on Jan 1, this year in Pulau Indah, Klang, Selangor.

"While the Club is still allowed to carry out private flights, it is barred from conducting any training flights during this time.

"CAAM is currently in the midst of conducting regulatory investigation over the accidents involving the helicopters operated by My Heli Club and a notice of suspension has been issued out with immediate effect.

"This careful action is done in fair execution of Malaysian regulations and most importantly in the interest of the safety of all club members and the

public," he said in a statement today.

In the Nov 8 incident last year, it was reported that My Heli Club's captain and chief flying instructor, Commander (Rtd) Mohamed Sabri Baharom, 56 and Mohamad Irfan Fikri Mohd Rawi, 44, were killed.

The occupants of the other helicopter, 9M-HCA, were My Heli Club's president Datuk Ahmad Jauhari Yahaya, 66, and its ordinary member Tan Chai Eian, 51. Both survived without any injury.

In the Jan 1 incident, a 9M-SAW-Robinson R66 Turbine private helicopter crashed while attempting an emergency landing at Jalan PKFZ West Port, Pulau Indah.

The aircraft's pilot, Kharudin Dahlan, 72, and his co-pilot, Moithu Kutti Mohamad, 52, both escaped with only slight injuries.
