PENAMPANG: A 26-second video featuring a boy cycling alone on a road in the wee hours has gone viral on social media, as some believe it was a paranormal event.

But the incident turned out to be a mundane case of a precocious child out on a lark.

The short clip shows the boy cycling along a junction, without the supervision of parents or guardians, at 3am on Wednesday.

Penampang district police chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Haris Ibrahim, when contacted, confirmed that the incident occurred at a junction leading to a village in Putatan.

"Several villagers had come to Putatan police station informing us that they saw a boy, around 4-years-old, cycling at the junction.

"My men, who were on duty, then rushed to the scene immediately upon receiving the information, and indeed found the boy there. The boy was brought back to the police station.

"At the same time, the boy's mother came to the police station after realising that her son had gone missing from their home," he said.

Haris said the woman claimed that her boy is autistic.

He also clarified that police have yet to receive an official report regarding the incident.
