KUALA LUMPUR: The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry will be tasked with listing down tourism activities that are going to be allowed in areas currently placed under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this was to enable the government to identify whether these activities are related to the economy or only for social purposes.

"Tourism activities in some tourist areas have yet to reopen. Under the CMCO, only economic activities are allowed and not social activities.

"Tourism activities are vague as they can be both for economic and social purposes. For bus operators, tourism is an economic activity, however for the people, traveling can be a social activity.

"Therefore, we want to discuss further on this with the ministry," he told a press conference today, adding the list would then be forwarded to the Health Ministry.

He said although the government had no objection to the activities, they needed to be discussed in detail in order to identify areas of the permitted activities.

"People were asking whether zoos can be allowed to open, as the zoo is not in a closed area and is an outdoor activity. Maybe the ministry will allow it, but we need to discuss further," he said.

Ismail Sabri added outdoor activities such as exercising was allowed according to the size of the space and number of people.

"We will ask the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry to name the activities and get views from the Health Ministry," he said.
