KUALA LUMPUR: Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd contributed 720 packets of milk and Aidilfitri goodies to the New Straits Times Press Bhd in conjunction with World Milk Day.

The occasion was also used to spread awareness on the importance of nutrition amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dutch Lady Milk Industries managing director Tarang Gupta said the dairy company wanted to show its appreciation to frontliners, including members of the media for keeping the people well-informed during the pandemic.

"As the world battles Covid-19, it is important to impart awareness about nutrition.

"I really appreciate what the media has done especially during the MCO (Movement Control Order) period as information is a vital commodity which people need to be updated with. I am thankful to each and every member of the media as they are among the 'warriors' in our fight during the pandemic."

He said the company, which is celebrating its 57th birthday this year, owed its existence to the contributions of Malaysian farmers.

It also advocated milk's important role in supplying essential nutrients for people of all ages, and this message was stressed upon every year during World Milk Day on June 1.

"Milk contains essential nutrients which allows the body to function properly, and it is important to remind the people specificially about the role of calcium, protein, and Vitamin D which strengthen your body. Vitamin D also plays an important role in immunity. That's why milk is known by differnet cultures for its ability to strengthen the body inside-out.

"I've increased my intake from two to three glasses a day," said Tarang.

The dairy company had previously donated more than 200,000 Dutch Lady milk packets to medical frontliners at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, University Malaya Medical Centre and enforcement agencies, underprivileged communities and stranded university students during the MCO.

Today, Tarang led his team to contribute 720 packets of Dutch Lady UHT PureFarm chocolate flavoured milk and full cream milk packets along with "kuih raya" during a visit to Balai Berita, here. It was part of 6,000 packets of milk which the company is distributing to the media this week.
