SIBU: A 45-year-old farmer had the shock of his life when he heard a baby's voice while throwing some rubbish at Lorong 16B at Perumahan Sibu Jaya, here, this morning.

Curious, Kemarau Langkau said he searched around the area and found a baby girl, with her umbillical cord still intact, under a banana tree at about 9.30am.

He then took the baby, who was in stable condition, back to his home and bathe her before alerting the police of the discovery.

Sibu police chief Assistant Commissioner Stanley Jonathan Ringgit confirmed receiving the report lodged at the Sibujaya police station.

“An ambulance arrived at the station and brought the infant to the Sibu Hospital for further medical examinations.

"We are still investigating the case,” he said in a statement.
