PENANG - Police reclassify death of baby girl found on Queensbay beach as murder

GEORGE TOWN: Police have reclassified the case of a baby girl, whose body was found washed ashore on the Queensbay beach in Bayan Baru here yesterday, as murder.

Southwest district police chief Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal said this was after a post-mortem examination which revealed that the baby had died as a result of incised wound to the neck.

"We have reclassified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said tonight.

Kamarul urged those with information about the incident to directly contact the investigating officer Assistant Superintendent C. Jivendran Muthuliyar at 019-3469718.

It was reported yesterday that visitors to the Queensbay beach i were in for a shock when the body of a baby girl washed ashore.

Initial investigation at the scene found that the body could have been swept away from elsewhere before it was found.

The body was naked and intact.

At that time, police had classified the case under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing birth and causing death.
