KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew said authorities have found the tusks belonging to the Pygmy elephant found dead in Beluran recently.

She said this was the latest update she received on the matter last night.

"We (the authorities) have found the tusks believed to belong to the dead elephant.

"However, we can't reveal further details to avoid disrupting the investigation.

"We are in the midst of catching the perpetrators and will inform the media if there's an update," said Liew, who is also the state Tourism, Culture and Environment minister.

She said this after launching the Environment Impact Assessment awareness workshop here.

Also present was the ministry's permanent secretary Datuk William Baya.

Last Friday, plantation workers discovered the carcass of the elephant at a plantation in the Beluran district.

Police have detained a security guard since Sunday to assist in investigations.
