KUALA LUMPUR: Two adult elephants were caught on video engaging in a tusk fight along the Jeli-Gua Musang road in Kelantan, causing a traffic jam in both directions.

The footage, believed to be captured by a driver among the halted cars, showed the elephants obstructing the road while seemingly attempting to cross from one side of the forest to the other.

Reportedly, a family of three elephants, including a calf, was involved in the incident.

While one larger elephant managed to cross the metal railing onto the grass, the other two, including the calf, appeared hesitant.

The viral video, titled 'Gajah bergaduh tepi jale,' (Elephants fighting by the road side) was shared on Faiz Mohd Fazree's Facebook account on Dec 29 and has since been widely circulated on social media platforms, garnering thousands of views and shares.

The incident led to a build-up of traffic in both directions towards Gua Musang and Kota Baru.

Additionally, a cautionary message shared by a Facebook user, Nissan Wangi, advised against using high beams and honking horns at night near elephants.

He said there was a past incident in 1995 where a lorry carrying fish was reportedly kicked down a ravine due to such disturbances, emphasizing the potential risks posed by startling wildlife.

"...at the time, I was driving from Jeli back to Klang at 11am. It was still foggy... my vision was affected and I saw fishes sprawled on the road... there were very few vehicles at that time using the route...." he wrote.
