KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran comedian AR Badul said he was well aware of the risks commandos face but his son Major Mohd Zahir Armaya was killed during a training session.

When contacted, Badul whose real name is Armaya Aman Ramlie, said he found out about what happened at about 11am today.

Mohd Zahir, 36, was playing the character of a criminal in a shooting demonstration in conjunction with the launch of the Fifth Division of the Malaysian Infantry and the 13th Malaysian Infantry Brigade at the Lok Kawi Camp in Kota Kinabalu this morning.

During the demonstration, a soldier fired at Mohd Zahir after which he fell on his back and two soldiers dragged him to the side.

His colleagues who went to check on him found him unsconscious.

"I accept this test from Allah," Badul said.

"What happened was that he was shot during a training session this morning. The bullet proof vest he wore could not withstand the shot and this is very sad," he said.

Badul has six children and Mohd Zahir is the eldest of two from the comedian's third wife.

Mohd Zahir leaves behind his wife Nourshafinar Harun and three children; a six-month-old baby boy with Nourshafinar and two from a previous marriage.
