KOTA BARU: Kelantan folk are hoping that the Perol-Ketereh stretch of the Kota Baru-Kuala Krai Expressway can be temporarily opened for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

State Pakatan Harapan Works Ministry portfolio chairman Ab Aziz Ab Kadir said such a move would make things smoother for motorists when traffic reaches its peak during the festive season.

He said he had sent a letter to the ministry asking that the request be considered so that things could be made easier for Kelantan residents.

Aziz said he had requested that the stretch be opened between June 3 and 9.

“We have received appeals from local residents and motorists in Kelantan for the (federal) government to consider opening the stretch to traffic temporarily.

“We have sent a letter to the ministry and we hope that the move can be supported,” he said.

The Federal Government said recently that the 6.85km Kadok-Ketereh stretch of the expressway could be opened before Hari Raya.

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali was reported as saying that work on the stretch, termed Package 2A, was coming along nicely and could be completed ahead of time.

However, he said he did not want work on the stretch to be too rushed as to compromise on quality.
