GEORGE TOWN: The blood samples of Moey Yun Peng, the driver of white Mazda CX-5 sports utility vehicle (SUV) which plunged into the sea at KM4 of the Penang Bridge, have been taken by the police for drug and alcohol tests.

Penang Police Chief Commissioner Datuk T Narenasagaran said it was part of standard operating procedure (SOP) for the police in the investigation.

“We will do a comprehensive investigation and will see the suitability on revealing the results.

“We have to take care of the sensitivity of the family who is still traumatised for the death of their family member,” he said during a High Tea Appreciation ceremony at Marine Police Headquarters today.

He also revealed that the police have completed the investigation papers pertaining to the accident pending chemical reports for drug and alcohol content of the Toyota Vios driver.

“However, we have referred the papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for initial review.

“The chemical report of the Vios driver will be included and submitted once we receive it,” he added.

Yun Peng, 20, died in an accident at 2.54am at KM4 of the bridge, in the direction of the mainland when his car plunged into the sea last Sunday.

When rescuers arrived at the scene, they found a heavily damaged Toyota Vios, while witnesses said the other vehicle had fallen into the sea.

The SUV was retrieved from the sea at about 6pm on Tuesday with Yun Peng still strapped in the driver’s seat.

Police are investigating the case under Section 42(1) of Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous or reckless driving.
