TANAH RATA: With the vote tallying for the Cameron Highlands by-election underway, unofficial results put Barisan Nasional (BN) in the lead, ahead of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and two Independent candidates.

As at 6.50pm, BN's Ramli Mohd Nor has polled 11,320 votes while PH's M. Manogaran trails behind with 6,942.

Independent candidate Sallehudin Ab Talib polled 295 votes and Wong Seng Yee, also an Independent, polled 208 votes.

As at 4pm earlier, the Election Commission (EC) announced that voter turnout was at 68 per cent.

The official voter turnout has not been announced. The last of the 27 polling stations closed at 5.30pm.

The votes, counted at the respective polling stations at the end of polling period, is now being tallied at Dewan Gemilang, Sekolah Menengah Sultan Ahmad Shah, here.

The Cameron Highlands parliamentary constituency has 32,009 registered voters who were eligible to cast their ballot papers.

This included 247 early voters, 12 absentee voters and 385 disabled voters.

The early voters comprise serving and retired police personnel who completed their responsibilities on Jan 22, and saw a turnout of 87 per cent or 216 voters.
