KUALA LUMPUR: Negri Sembilan Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) is encouraging Umno Youth and veteran leaders to join the party on condition that they abandon corruption and the pursuit of positions of power.

“I encourage friends from Umno to join PPBM, but they must abandon corruption and must not make demands for positions,” said Negri Sembilan Bersatu chief Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim after launching the Alumni Institut Bahasa Melayu at the Malay Language Campus Teacher Education Institute in Lembah Pantai, here, today.

Last Wednesday, Rais revealed that many Negri Sembilan Umno leaders had requested to join PPBM.

He said the applications of some of the leaders, including former Klawang state assemblyman Datuk Yunus Rahmat, had been accepted, while the rest were undergoing a filtering process.

He said the party election committee would decide on their membership.

Asked about the state division’s membership, which was dissolved due to internal problems and violations of the party constitution, Rais said developments would be announced when appropriate.

“I cannot be so open because of the need to maintain harmony in our struggle. Tomorrow for example, I will meet members from Rembau and Port Dickson.”
