BALIK PULAU: A 29-year-old man, who admitted to murdering his 63-year-old mother and dumping her body into a sewage tank in Jalan Sungai Burung, here, had his remand period extended for another seven days beginning today.

Magistrate Nur Azzuin Abdul Moati allowed the police’s application to extend the remand until Oct 9 to assist investigations into the case under Section 302 of Penal Code for murder.

The man was escorted to the Balik Pulau Magistrate’s Court here about 8.40am for the remand extension. He looked calm and smiled when photographers took his picture.

It was reported that a senior citizen, who had been missing from home since Sept 19, was found dead inside a sewage tank behind her house in Kampung Sungai Burung here on Sept 23.

Police believe that the victim, identified as Faridah Mat Hashim, had been murdered by her son, who went into hiding soon afterwards.

He was arrested on Sept 25 in front of the district Health Department in Jalan Air Putih here and admitted that he had committed the crime.

He was initially remanded for seven days.

Sources said he looked confused.

“Maybe he could not get over the habit of sniffing petrol, which made him looked disorderly when in custody,” said the source.

“During interrogation, he told police that it was his mother who had first picked up the knife and pointed it towards him in the kitchen of their home before the incident happened.”
