BALIK PULAU: A five-year-old boy died after he was rammed by a lorry while crossing the road at Taman Sahabat, Teluk Kumbar here last night.

In the 11pm incident, the victim Muhammad Sabirin Khasim, who suffered serious head and bodily injuries, died on the way to the Balik Pulau Hospital.

Deputy southwest district police chief Deputy Superintendent Jafri Md Zain said initial investigation showed the child was crossing the road from the left when he was rammed by the lorry, carrying fish, from the same direction.

“The victim is believed to be alone at the time of the incident but investigation is still underway.

“Checks showed the 32-year-old driver has a valid licence, and urine test conducted showed he was not under the influence of drugs,” he said.

The case is investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
