IPOH: An 11-year-old boy died yesterday, while his three other family members were admitted to the Seri Manjung Hospital after they suffered from food poisoning.

Perak Health Department director Dr Ding Lay Ming, in a statement today, said that the department received a food poisoning report involving a family of seven from Kampung Changkat Chermin in Ayer Tawar here on Saturday.

"All of them experience symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, dehydration, fatigue, and fever. One of them had a seizure. They experienced the symptoms between 1am and 5am on Friday.

"The family was taken to the private clinic on the same day of which four of them were rushed to the Seri Manjung Hospital for further treatment.

"One of them, an 11-year-boy, was pronounced dead due to complications while he was receiving treatment at the hospital yesterday.

"Meanwhile, the other family members who are currently receiving treatment at the hospital are reported to be in stable condition and recuperating," she said.

Dr Ding added that verification and investigation at the food stalls and bazaar Ramadan in Simpang Gelung Pepuyu and Titi Gantung, respectively, revealed that there were no acute gastroenteritis or food poisoning cases detected since May 31 until today.

"This is a secluded case and involved a family only. The main cause of this incident has yet to be ascertained and we are still investigating," she said.

Meanwhile, a picture believed to be of the deceased boy, has gone viral on social media after a Facebook user, Mazaini Hasma A Hamid, said to be a relative to the boy, had posted the picture and asked for everyone to pray for her nephew.

In the posting, Mazaini had asked for netizens to pray for her nephew, who has been warded in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Manjung Hospital, due to food poisoning and had yet to regain consciousness.

"His two sisters and brother were also at the emergency unit at the same hospital. Speedy recovery to my nephews and nieces. May my sister be strong enough to go through this predicament," she said in her status, which was posted on Saturday.
