JOHOR BARU: With the scrapping of the goods and services tax (GST) today, price monitoring will be carried out by the chief secretaries of two ministries.

Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Salahuddin Ayub said the abolition of GST had not affected the supply of goods.

“There is no surge in demand or hoarding of livestock, poultry, fisheries and dairy products,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed had given his consent for the chief secretaries of his ministry and the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry to oversee the price watch operation nationwide.

“We will ensure that the transition to zero-rated GST is transparent and curb illegal profiteering under the Domestic Trade, Co-operatives, and Consumers Affair Act.”

He said this during a visit to his Pulai parliamentary constituency today, where he handed aid to single mothers and the poor in Kampong Pasir.
