KUALA LUMPUR: Beginning June 9, Tabung Haji (TH) deposit accounts which are not active for a period of seven years will be deemed “inactive accounts” and will not be entitled to annual or Haj hibah (grants) beginning 2018.

Lembaga Tabung Haji said the initiative was a security measure to protect its clients from “suspicious” transactions.

It said in a statement that TH had so far identified 500,000 inactive accounts with savings totaling RM62.8 million.

TH advised depositors to ensure their accounts remained active by making at least one transaction at any of its branches or counters, or online transaction with its strategic partners Bank Islam, Bank Rakyat or Maybank before June 8.

It also advised depositors to update their profile information, such as addresses, telephone numbers and heirs.

This is so that TH can easily contact those who are in line for a chance to perform the haj and for the management of assets.

TH said if particulars were not current, it would not be able to contact depositors who may miss out on the chance to perform the haj.

Those with queries can contact its client services hotline at 03-62071919.
