PORT DICKSON: An army officer who went missing after falling into a mine pool at Kampung Pengkalan Durian, Linggi here yesterday was found drowned at 9.30am today.

The body of Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Rashid Shahdan, 54, was found floating about 600 metres from where he is believed to have fallen.

Port Dickson district acting deputy superintendent Mohd Faisal Mohd Noor said that the search and rescue operation, which began at 10am yesterday, was assisted by the army, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Civil Defence Agency (JPAM) and local fishermen.

"The victim's body has been sent to the Port Dickson Hospital for a post-mortem, and the case is classified as ‘sudden death’," he said when contacted today.

At 7am yesterday, Abdul Rashid is believed to have gone to the mine area with his nephews, aged between 11 and 13, following a jogging session.

He is believed to have fallen into the mine as he was attempting to cross the body of water via a drain.
