KUANTAN: The identities of the three boys who drowned in a training pool at an army camp in Temerloh here have been confirmed as being children to army personnel at the camp.

The victims are Amar Mukhlis Mohd Anizan, 13, as well as 11-year-olds, Aiman Syafiq Sudirman and Muhammad Shafiq Aswad Shahril Naim, Temerloh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said.

He said the drowning came to light when one of the victim's friends sought help from an army personnel at around 5.30pm.

"An army team who arrived at the pool found three t-shirts by the side of pool and located the first victim, Aiman Syafiq at 5.55pm, followed by Muhammad Shafiq Aswad at 6.10pm and Amar Mukhlis five minutes later (6.15pm).

"The victims were taken to the medical centre at the camp but were confirmed dead by the doctor there," he said in a statement here today, adding that autopsies will be conducted today (Saturday) at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh before their bodies are released to their families for burial in Bachok and Pasir Puteh in Kelantan.

He said the site of the incident was a restricted area and the army had closed the location off.

Preliminary investigations revealed no foul play and the case has been classified as sudden death currently.

The fire department had earlier released a statement that the victims had been found drowned after an outing at the pool. --BERNAMA
