REMBAU: The upcomng Hari Raya Haji and the National Day holidays will be a merrier and happier affair for Nurul Ain Abd Aziz and her five children.

The Malaysia Retail Chain Association had contributed food and cash worth RM10,000 to the 31-year-old widow who lost her husband, Suffian Hadi Zainab, 32, to brain cancer during Hari Raya Aidilfitri in July.

"My children will have a more joyful time during this long weekend," Nurul told New Straits Times here recently.

"This is just a little something that we can do for Nurul Ain and her children to ease their financial burden a little bit," council member and organising chairperson corporate social responsibility Flora Tan Joo Jua said at Nurul Ain's home.

Also present were the association's financial controller and council member Datuk Eric Tai and other youth members.

Nurul Ain's family was highlighted in the NST in July when she told her children that "ayah" has gone to heaven.

The family used to stay in Seremban and Suffian was the sole breadwinner but things took a turn for the worse a year ago when he was diagnosed with brain tumour.

After he died, Nurul Ain relocated to her mother's house in Kampung Pekan Pedas and struggled to make ends meet as she had no savings or a job.

"I have to be strong for my children," she said, admitting that there were times she had to depend on handouts from family members to survive.
