KLUANG: Malaysia has achieved a spectacular pace of development since it achieved independence 60 years ago, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday.

He said these outstanding achievements were made possible thanks to four factors — peace and security, political stability, government planning and a capable government to carry out its initiatives.

“In terms of political stability, it is about having a stable government for the past 60 years since independence. It is about having a government that can be counted and relied on.

“This stable government is something we must protect and something we need to preserve," said Najib at the launch of the national-level Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house event at Taman Sri Lambak Mini Stadium in Sembrong yesterday evening.

Present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin, Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa, cabinet ministers and other dignitaries.

Najib said the High Speed Rail that will connect Kuala Lumpur and Singapore and Mass Rapid Transit were some of the pivotal development projects spearheaded by the government.

He also urged the people to protect the country’s stability avoid voting in a party that could throw the country’s stability and unity away.

“Do not jeapordise our future with people who are in disarray. We cannot jeapordise it. We must choose a party that is strong and has proven to govern the country well.

“We have proven our capability to govern as we do not give out mere empty promises unlike the opposition. They promise the world but they do not deliver,” he said.

Najib also approved a request from Hishammuddin, who is Sembrong MP, for the construction of 500 new affordable housing for residents in Paloh state constituency next year, and another 500 units of houses for second generation of Felda folk in Kahang.

He also approved a request to upgrade the Taman Sri Lambak police beat base to a police station.
