PETALING JAYA: Police have launched a probe into the circulation of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin's case file photos.

This comes after a Telegram channel posted photos purportedly depicting injuries suffered by Zayn, 6, who was murdered last December.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said they received a report on the circulation of the photos this afternoon.

"The documents in question will be used in a trial," he said in a statement.

"We have opened investigations for the wrongful communication of official secrets, disclosing information obtained during duty under any written law and misuse of network facilities."

These fall under Section 8 of the Official Secrets Act, Section 203A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Shahrulnizam urged the public against circulating the photos as it could jeopardise investigations.

"Stern action will be taken in accordance with the law," he said.

On Dec 6, 2023, Zayn was found dead at a stream near Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai, at 10pm.

The boy's body was found about 200 metres from his home by members of the public who participated in the search operations following a report about his disappearance.

An autopsy confirmed Zayn was murdered.

His parents have been charged with neglect which may have caused him physical injury.
