TAMPIN: Police have confirmed that the skeletal remains found in an oil palm plantation near Felda Sungai Kelamah, Gemas, here, last month belong to Muhammad Syafiq Salehin, who was reported missing in March.

Tampin district police chief, Superintendent Amiruddien Sariman, said that this identification was made possible through DNA testing conducted on the remains.

"On April 29, police received information from the public about the discovery of human remains along with a motorcycle in an oil palm plantation in Felda Sungai Kelamah at around 2.50pm.

"Among the items found were a belt and a motorcycle helmet," Amiruddien said in a statement yesterday.

The remains were sent to the Forensic Room of Tampin Hospital Forensic Department for post-mortem examination and DNA testing.

Amiruddien said the DNA report confirmed that the remains belonged to Muhammad Syafiq Salehin, who was reported missing on March 25.

"The case is being investigated as a sudden death report (SDR), and further investigations are ongoing," he added.

On April 29, it was reported that human remains from the pelvis to the legs were found in a dry ditch along with a blue Yamaha LC 135 motorcycle.

Earlier in March, police had appealed to the public for assistance in locating Muhammad Syafiq, who was noticed missing by his wife before she filed the missing person report. He resided in Kampung Paya Lebar, Air Kuning Selatan.
