KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched an investigation into a case of a dead baby whose body was dumped at the parking lot of Putra Ria Apartments in Pantai Dalam here.

Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the baby girl was found dead with an injury mark on the left cheek and its umbilical cord still attached.

He said initial findings revealed that the baby was physically complete and was believed to be of foreign nationality. An ambulance, he said, was deployed to the scene following an emergency call.

"The caller, who was the apartment manager, reported finding the body of a baby in the parking area of Block 94, Putra Ria Apartment, Kuala Lumpur.

"At 10.25am, an ambulance from the University of Malaya Medical Centre arrived at the location, and the medical officer confirmed the baby's death. The baby was then taken for a post-mortem examination."

He said the post-mortem was expected to be conducted tomorrow.
