KUALA LUMPUR: Repairs on the roofs of two blocks of the Putra Ria Apartment in Bangsar, which were blown off during a storm last Saturday, are estimated to cost RM120,000.

Lembah Pantai member of parliament Fahmi Fadzil said he would discuss expediting the repairs with Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh.

"The damage to the buildings, particularly to the roof, appears quite severe with one of the lift shafts having been affected as the roof was blown away. This could be problematic if it rains.

"The repairs on the two apartment blocks is estimated to cost RM 120,000, and I hope work can start as soon as possible. Ideally, we want to begin tomorrow.

"Hence, I will discuss expediting the repairs with the Kuala Lumpur mayor this afternoon," he told reporters after handing out aid to residents of the apartments.

Fahmi has also instructed the apartment's management corporation to inspect roofs of the three apartment blocks.

"If comprehensive action is needed, we will also expedite it."

He said eight units on the uppermost floor of both blocks were affected by the blown off roofs.

"Additionally, around five motorcycles and three cars were damaged."

On Saturday, heavy rain and strong winds blew away sheets of zinc roofing of the apartment blocks, damaging several units and vehicles in the residential complex.
