BATU PAHAT: A 41-year-old foreigner who tried to bribe a policeman to avoid receiving a summons has been arrested.

District police chief Assitant Commissioner Ismail Dollah said the man was riding around Jalan Pantai around midnight when he was stopped by a policeman patrolling the area.

The policeman asked the foreigner for his license and the man was unable to produce one.

"He then took out RM70 in cash to avoid receiving a summons," Ismail said in a statement.

"Even though he was warned multiple times against offering a bribe, the man continued to do so and tried to pass the policeman the money."

The foreigner was then arrested for trying to bribe a civil servant.

"He has been handed over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for further investigations."
