MUAR: A carwash worker pleaded not guilty to raping a minor at the Sessions Court here today (March 20).

Charges were read out to the accused, before judge Irwan Suainbon, according to Harian Metro.

The accused's victim is now eight months pregnant.

According to the first and second charges, the man was accused of raping a teenager who was 16 years old at the time at a commercial centre in Bukit Gambir at about 2pm, July last year.

He was charged under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 20 years' jail and whipping for each charge.

The accused met the victim through TikTok, then invited her to his home where he allegedly raped her.

The victim's mother learnt about the rape after noticing physical changes in her daughter and asked her to tell the truth. Then the mother filed a police report.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Nur Sulehan Abd Rahman. The accused was unrepresented.

The court granted bail of RM10,000 with one surety and set April 23 for the re-mention of the case.

The defendant was sent to the Muar Correctional Centre for failing to pay bail.
